Spiderweb suggesting the difficulty of leaving a cult. Cult recovery therapy with Rachel Oblak, LCMHC in Williston Vermont

Leaving a cultic group takes unbelievable courage and strength, yet it usually comes at a high cost. It can cause emotional and spiritual devastation and leave you wondering who you are, who you can trust, and what is true.

I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor who specializes in
working with cult survivors and individuals recovering from undue influence. I have written and presented on counseling considerations in working with survivors of cultic abuse and have developed a focused area of practice dedicated to helping individuals recover and rebuild from these experiences.

Healing from Undue Influence and Coercive Control

Because so much of the damage caused by cultic groups occurs through undue influence—including manipulation, coercion, force, or isolation—fostering your independence and autonomy is foremost in my mind.

In therapy, you are free to question what may have previously felt unquestionable and to formulate your own conclusions. I will happily and curiously accompany you in exploring the far corners of philosophy, religion, politics, and your own sense of meaning and purpose. The goal is to help you develop the capacity to decide for yourself what you believe, strengthen your connection to your inner self, and deepen your awareness of your own choice.

Rebuilding Identity and Life After a Cult

Treatment balances practical support with deeper emotional work. This may include helping you acclimate to the realities of your post‑cult life—such as securing housing, food, or employment—while also creating space to process your experiences more fully.

Our work together may focus on developing a post‑cult identity, fostering healthy relationships, and exploring your worldview and beliefs. Therapy is paced with care, honoring both the complexity of your experience and your need for psychological safety.

Fees and Location

I offer both in-person sessions at my office in Williston, VT and telehealth therapy for patients across Vermont.

Individual sessions are $200. I am primarily private pay and do not work with commercial insurance panels. If you have out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to provide superbills you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I reserve a small number of slots for sliding scale fees or individuals on Medicaid.
